Institute of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care

The Institute of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care is one of the most important departments at the Academic Hospital Solingen. This institute works to react quickly in situations where the count is not hours and days, but minutes, to provide resuscitation measures for every patient in case of need.

The head of the institute is Professor Thomas Standl. The chief physician has tremendous medical experience and together with his team provide emergency medical care.

Doctor Kourosh Savadkouhi - deals with paediatric anaesthesiology and is a leading emergency medicine physician.

The main task of the team of anaesthesiologists and emergency physicians is to administer individual anaesthesia before surgery, to prepare the patient (premedication), to assess the risks, to ensure a painless and effective induction into anaesthesia (medical coma). Stabilisation of the condition, and further management of the patient after awakening. Each patient is ensured a comfortable stay in the clinic during the pre-operative and post-operative period, adaptation of the patient after the interventions for a speedy recovery. This period usually lasts no more than a week, and in some cases, the patient can be discharged 1-3 days after surgery completely risk-free and free to move around independently.

Maternity wards also offer the opportunity to give birth eliminating the pain of a caesarean section or natural birth. The institute uses proven and safe methods for anaesthesia before delivery, injecting the drug close to the spinal cord, without risks.
